A Mallorca wedding for a love that spreads across continents
Molly and Harley have a unique love story. As crew members on mega yachts, they call the yacht their home and have no real address to come back to. Molly and Harley met while working together on one of these large vessels and have continued to do so since. However, Molly hails from the island of Sint Maarten in the Caribbean. Harley comes all the way from New Zealand, so nearly the opposite ends of the globe. So where do you get married then? Well of course you have a Mallorca wedding!
Well, somewhere in the middle, of course. Somewhere that you both love to visit as well. Mallorca is a popular destination for those that travel on yachts. It is no surprise that these two also fell in love with this Spanish island.
As a long time friend of Molly, I was not surprised when I was asked to photograph their wedding. We grew up on the island of Sint Maarten together. Over 10 years of friendship and I couldn’t be more honored to do the job. We hired a second photographer to cover the reception so that I could enjoy the festivities just as much as the other guests. It was perfect!
Getting Ready – Mallorca Wedding
The day began at the beautiful Son Burguet, a breathe-taking Mallorca wedding venue. Molly arrived with her 3 bridesmaids and started the process of getting ready. She did her make up herself and had her hair done by Hair by Becca.
Details – Mallorca Wedding
The details of the day truly reflect this couple. Molly, who works as a chief stew, is super organized. I wasn’t shocked to see how seamless the whole day was. The attention to detail was so thoughtful, down to the luggage name tags as wedding favors. Perfect for a wedding between continents.
First Look
This couple has a good sense of humor. Molly opted to have a little fun with her first look. She has a friend dress in a white dress and pose as her before the actual first look. To keep Harley from figuring it out, we had Molly stand nearby so he could still hear her and think it was her standing behind him and not a grown man.
Despite the lighting, we chose to have the first look on the stairs of a quaint little casita. The bougainvillea growing along the staircase against the rustic casita was too beautiful not to utilize. The moment was shared with their close friends as well as filmed to share with the rest.
Ceremony
The ceremony was straight out of a fairy tale. As the guests waited to be seated, they were entertained by the violist who played popular hits. An open bar was also available, passing out wine and champagne for the guests arriving.
My husband Michael was taking drone shots and videos of the ceremony area which was situated on the edge of a cliffside. The views of the Mallorca countryside enveloped us from every side. The weather was perfect for the October season and there were littles clouds to ruin the sky.
The ceremony was lead by Mollys sister Rosie. She shared fun anecdotes about her sister as well as her soon to be husband. Mollys mother other came up to share a lovely poem to the couple and all present.
Molly and Harley both shared personal vows they had written for one another. When all was said and done, they were wedded and walked down the aisle. Guests were encouraged to throw dried flower petals on them. I highly recommend as they were stunning in the sunlight.
Bridal Portraits
For this perfect Mallorca wedding, the bridal portraits were certainly on theme. Molly was most excited for these images (what bride wouldn’t be?) and the venue provided the most perfect backdrop for Molly and Harley. For the bridesmaids and groomsmen photos, we captured those ahead of the ceremony to save time. The group photos, family and friends; and bridal portraits were all taken after the ceremony.
The bridesmaids were on point and ready to make Molly look like the blushing bride that she was! The boys were by far the easiest group of groomsmen I have ever worked with! These guys were a good sport to work with and I was super happy with the images we were able to create.
As for the bride and groom, we made our way around the entire son burguet venue and captured so many beautiful portraits. Molly knew exactly what she wanted and had some really artistic ideas for photos.
Reception
This reception was definitely one for the books! The catering was done by Tot a Punt; and I have to say, the food was PHENOMENAL. The service of the staff was perfect. The drinks were flowing and the good times were certainly rolling.
Molly and Harley had a grand entrance, introduced Mollys good friend. The couple came in and we were graced by amazing speeches from the father of the groom, father of the bride and best friend of the groom. These men had us all crying laughing and a bit of just plain crying. There was never a dull moment. I could’ve listened to these men talk for days.
Mallorca Wedding Party Time!
The party went on into the wee hours of the morning. The couple opted out of a grand entrance and preferred some candid party photos instead.
